Tourism NZ Rugby Ball Global Tour
2010
Paris
In October 2007 we successfully promoted New Zealand by placing a giant inflatable Rugby ball shaped venue under the shadow of The Eiffel Tower in Paris for the Rugby World Cup. Working with their world class design team, Mike Mizrahi and Marie Adams created two world firsts in design – an air structure in this unusual shape and a full immersion video system that transports people to New Zealand. This venue toured with the All Blacks to the world’s great rugby nations as a promotional build up for New Zealand who host the Rugby World Cup in 2011.
London
In November 2008, the giant Rugby ball shaped venue was inflated right beside the Tower Bridge in London for the Grand Slam UK Tour. Stunning images of New Zealand were projected onto the exterior of the Rugby ball at night time to enhance its presence in London.
Tokyo
In October 2009, The Giant Rugby Ball venue was inflated in Tokyo under the grand Tokyo Tower. Over 13,000 people were lucky enough to enjoy the free ten minute 360 degree AV over the eight days it was open.
Sydney
In August 2010, the giant Rugby ball venue was once again inflated, this time on Sydney Harbour. This was the Ball’s fourth and final publicity tour before next year’s Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.
Over 26,000 people visited the site during the 10 days the ball sat on Circular Quay, between the city’s most famous landmarks (the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge), including a record 3,834 attendees on its final day.
